Why We Love East Hollywood

We at The Kind Center love East Hollywood! It’s home to a diverse population who make the city a unique place to live. There’s so much to enjoy while visiting East Hollywood. It has endless food options, art around every corner, and is home to historical monuments. It’s only a short drive away from the other Hollywoods for those who enjoy a more fast-paced environment with a multitude of tourist attractions and Hollywood impersonators. Still, our favorite part of East Hollywood would have to be the people who live there.

Gorgeous Views

If we were asked to recommend a place to view the city, Olive Hill would be the answer every single time. Experience breathtaking views of the Hollywood Hills and that sign people take pictures in front of.

Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles

Children throughout Southern California receive treatment from the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. They have been proud to serve the community over the past 100 years, providing compassionate and in-depth care.

Culture

View artwork from Los Angeles’ own local artists at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park. The contemporary exhibitions are available to see Thursday-Sunday from 11-4.

Did you know that the art park used to be an olive orchard?

Olive trees covered the land that would be known as Barnsdall Art Park in East Hollywood many years later. Canadian immigrant, Joseph H. Spires, purchased the land in the 1890s and began to cultivate olives, hoping they would bring him good fortune. When he passed away, the land was sold to Alina Barnsdall, who had plans to build a home and arts center on the top of the hill.

This hill would go on to be called Olive Hill, which makes perfect sense because of its history. Frank Lloyd Wright designed her home and intended to keep the olive trees, however as time went on, the land was split and the trees began to disappear.
