The Farmer’s Market
The original Fairfax Farmer's Market first opened in 1934, featuring food stalls, food vendors, and product markets. Now with more than 100 vendors, the Farmer's Market is a L.A. landmark and popular attraction.

If you love waffles, then Fairfax's local restaurant called Canter's is the place to be. Los Angeles magazine named it the Best Waffle in Los Angeles, and it's Monte Cristo sandwich has been deemed one of the best as well.
Melrose Trading Post
The Melrose Trading Post is an outdoor flea market that was created for the Fairfax High School and its surrounding neighborhood. Each weekend, hundreds of local vendors gather on the corner of Melrose to sell goods and celebrate their community.

Fairfax Village is the ideal location for a day in L.A. It's highly walkable, and has specialty coffee shops, an array of cultural restaurants, and many boutique stores. From burgers to fine dining, the Village is where you'll find it.

One thing we love about Fairfax is its close-knit cultural community. An example of this is the L.A. Museum of the Holocaust in Pan Pacific Park, founded by Holocaust survivors and an important monument for the community's Jewish residents.

The Fairfax District is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, CA. It has historically been a center for a large Jewish community. It's well-known for a number of popular attractions, including the Fairfax Farmer’s Market, The Grove, CBS Television City broadcasting center, the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust in Pan Pacific Park, and Fairfax Avenue’s many restaurants and shops.
This small neighborhood once went by the technical name of Beverly-Fairfax, but has been shortened over time. It was originally 3.2 square miles, but the Los Angeles Times’ Mapping L.A. project reduced Fairfax to just 1.23 square miles. Fairfax is bordered by West Hollywood, Hollywood, Hancock Park, Mid-Wilshire, and Beverly Grove. It's considered to be bound by Willoughby Ave on the North, Wilshire Boulevard to the south, La Brea Ave to the east, and La Cienega Boulevard to the west. This small portion of Los Angeles has only about 13,000 people in the neighborhood, averaging 10,122 people per square mile, making Fairfax about average in terms of population density for the county.
Residents of Fairfax have a median age of 33, on par with the rest of Los Angeles, and an above-average percentage of residents aged 65 and older — one of the county's highest. A large number of residents over 25 years of age had a four-year degree, about 54%. Fairfax's average household size is 2, a number generally low for Los Angeles but higher than some of Fairfax's surrounding neighborhoods. A notable statistic about Fairfax is that it has one of the highest percentages of never-married men and never-married women in all of Los Angeles county. It's not especially diverse, though 23.2% of residents are born outside the US, most commonly in Ukraine and Mexico. You'll find a number of schools in family-friendly Fairfax, including: Fairfax High School, Westside Community Adult School, and Melrose Avenue Elementary School of the LAUSD system, as well as private schools Bais Yaakov School for Girls, The Otman Center, Yeshiva Ohr Eichonon Chabad, and Cheder of Los Angeles.
Fairfax's history isn't entirely well-documented, but based in nearby neighborhoods, we can generally piece it together. Similar to the rest of Los Angeles, Fairfax was likely home to a group of Native Americans, the Tongva. Upon the arrival of Spanish explorers, native peoples were pushed from the new ranchos established along what is now the Sunset Strip. Fairfax's history picks up in the mid-1900s, insinuating it had a slower start than surrounding communities such as Hollywood, and was likely a sleepy residential area until then. It quickly became the center of the Jewish community in Los Angeles, one of the largest after the Boyle Heights period (which had been the biggest Jewish community west of Chicago in the 1920s and 1930s). There were originally four synagogues in Fairfax, with more popping up following the aftermath of World War II. As more Jewish families moved in, religiously-oriented schools and a Jewish Community Center sprang up.
Today, Fairfax is a nice place to live and visit. Its Farmer's Market at the corner of Fairfax Avenue and 3rd Street is reminiscent of the town's 1930s atmosphere. You can visit The Grove, a ginormous commercial retail and entertainment center known for its beautiful architecture and sprawling stores. There's the Beverly Fairfax Historic District, a neighborhood east of Fairfax Ave and north of Beverly Boulevard, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. CBS Television City was built in 1952 on the former site of the Gilmore Stadium, at Fairfax and Beverly Blvd. It has been used to tape many shows, including family-favorite The Price is Right. Fairfax not only has its own set of notable places, but also offers a convenient location for visiting nearby attractions such as LACMA and the Natural History Museum's La Brea Tar Pits.
