Did you know that Hollywood began as an agricultural community?
Hollywood wasn’t always the glitz and glamour town we know today. Before it evolved into the city of stars, its climate allowed for an agricultural community to grow and prosper in the mid-1800s. A real estate developer named Harvey Henry Wilcox and his wife purchased land west of Hollywood in hopes of practicing ranching, however things didn’t go as planned and he ended up filing plans for the land to be subdivided.
As more people began to settle, a civilized society started booming. Real estate developer, Hobart Johnstone Whitley, helped establish what is Hollywood today and was even given the title of “Father of Hollywood.” Film studios began popping up in the early 1900s due to the scenery, weather, and patents restrictions from Thomas Edison’s company on the East Coast.
